A. Kiger, Ph.D., P.E.
At the University of Missouri-Columbia, Dr. Kiger is C.W. La Pierre Distinguished Professor and Director of the Center for Explosion Resistant Design. He earned his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics at the University of Illinois-Urbana.
Prior to moving to the University of Missouri in 1996, Dr. Kiger was Chairman and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at West Virginia University, 1989-1996, and he was a Research Engineer at the Army Engineer Research and Development Center between 1973 and 1989. From 1970 to 1973 he was Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Oklahoma State University.
Dr. Kiger was honored as the Corps’ Researcher of the Year in 1985 for his work in explosion resistant structural analysis and design. He has authored or co-authored over 100 technical papers and reports (primarily in weapons effects and explosion resistant structural design), and he is a principal author of the Army Technical Manual TM 5-855-1, “Fundamentals of Protective Construction.” Dr. Kiger is a member of the National Research Council's Committee for Oversight and Assessment of Blast Related Research, an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a previous chairman of the ASCE Technical Committee on Shock and Vibratory Effects, past president of the West Virginia Section of ASCE, and he is a registered professional engineer.
